Last weekend Bruce and I went to FDR State Park in GA. Our church was having a retreat there and since it didn't start until Friday evening and there was several hours of free time on Saturday, we decided to take the horses and take advantage of the horse trails.
One of the neatest things was using the VZ Navigation on our cell phone for the first time. We would probably have gotten turned around a couple of times on the way there without it. Way Cool!
The stables we kept the horses at was nice. The man who manages it and works it was very friendly.
We asked about which trails to take. We wanted one that would be about 2 hours and pretty. We chose the Overlook Trail. It was a beautiful trail, but very rocky. Basically we were working our way up to the top of the mountain to Overlook Point. At some points it was just solid rock. Kansas (Bruce's TWH) was not having fun after a while. He was shoed but did some slipping on the rocks. Peabody seemed to fair better with easy-boots. He also seemed to take this as a challenge and lead just about the entire way. The view at the top was beautiful and ---wouldn't you know it---we left the camera in the truck! When we got back, we were concerned about Kansas and checked on him several times during night. He was fine, just tired. He was a new horse the next day! The group camp where we were staying was about a mile and a half from stables, so it was somewhat convenient. We did have to take the horse trailer with us and load feed, hay and tack in the truck, though...That was a bummer!
The next day we took the easier trails. They were also very pretty and not at all as rocky.
The retreat was nice as well. It was good to get away and be with other Christians, God's creation and our horses! The church service Sunday morning was really wonderful in the fresh air!
